Volunteering

Help us to protect and preserve the Weald of Kent.

WKPS has since 1960 relied entirely on volunteers to carry out its work.  All the posts advertised below are unsalaried, although expenses can be paid.
So, if you are looking for an opportunity to help protect the Weald of Kent, the following positions offer a chance to do so:

Treasurer

The role takes approximately two hours a month.  To prepare, in conjunction with the Chairman, the Annual Report for submission to the members of the Council and WKPS members for their approval. To submit regular financial reports to the Council and Management Committee as and when required. To make payments as authorised (online banking). To work in conjunction with the Secretary regarding membership subscriptions. To manage the current and deposit accounts of the Society.

Social Secretary

If you are a natural organiser, there are plenty of social events events to organise, help always needed to promote WKPS and increase the membership.

Membership Secretary

Desperately seeking someone to help recruit new members, manage the membership database, chase annual subscriptions and manage the annual gift aid claim.

To discuss any of the above roles please contact Fay Merrick secretary@wkps.org.uk

Planning Scrutineers

There is an opportunity to contribute to the work of this respected environmental group, whose purpose is to protect and develop the distinctive nature of the towns, villages and countryside of the Weald.

This interesting and absorbing part time voluntary job involves the inspection of planning applications for a group of villages or a small town and drafting a response to those applications. The successful applicant would be part of the Society’s Planning Committee.

Detailed knowledge of planning law is not essential although some working knowledge is helpful. Support, guidance and training would be provided.

Applicants should live in the Ashford, Maidstone, or Tunbridge Wells Borough areas, and have the use of a car, computer and telephone. Expenses are paid.

Village Representatives

Village Representatives (VR)  are essential to the work of WKPS, a well respected environmental organisation that has been working to protect and develop the distinctive nature of the countryside, towns and villages of the Weald since 1960.

As the ‘eyes and ears’ of their home villages, VRs support the Planning Scrutineers with their detailed local knowledge, bring local developments to Scrutineers’ attention, help with fund-raising and social activities.

At the moment there are vacancies for VRs in:

Cranbrook, Frittenden, Great Chart, Little Chart, Pluckley and Westwell.

For more information on becoming a VR, please email the Planning Secretary Peta Grant planning@wkps.org.uk

If you are not from one of these villages but nevertheless would like to be involved with WKPS, we would be very pleased to hear from you also.
