Ghyll Safari
We were delighted to welcome so many attendees to our Ghyll & Bloomery Safari in Benenden in September. Our sincere thanks go to our expert guides, Stephen Lemon and Lindsay Akerman, for leading such an illuminating and insightful tour, and to our generous host Eleanor North for making us feel so welcome.
It was a pleasure to explore this remarkable and little-known landscape. We hope the event deepened your understanding of the ghylls & bloomery heritage and their importance to the Weald of Kent. Thank you to everyone who joined us and helped make the day such a success.
Nightingale Walk
We were hosted by our Chairman, Michael Bax at his farm in Shadoxhurst. The evening started with drinks and nibbles and a very educational talk from Mike on the habitat and migration of the Nightingales. Thereafter we proceeded to have a leisurely walk around the farm, where Mike pointed out some rare Orchids and other unusual plants, Chequer Trees both old and saplings. As the light dimmed and with lots of hushing of our large group, we were enchanted with the powerful and beautiful song of the male Nightingales. In the 9 odd years I have been at the event, this was by far the most Nightingales we had ever had the privilege to listen to.
