Leave A Gift In Your Will

Leaving a gift to WKPS

Leaving a legacy gift in your Will to Weald of Kent Protection Society means you can continue making a difference for years to come.

Charities rely on all sorts of support for their funding and Will gifts are a great way to show people you cared about a given cause. Yet many people don’t know what’s possible, how to go about it, or that there can be tax benefits to such charitable gifts.

Our guide to making your Will

While you’ll wish to obtain professional advice, here’s a brief guideline of the things to consider when thinking about leaving a gift to charity.

Planning

Start by writing down your assets and thinking about the people and causes you would like to benefit.

Inheritance Tax

Gifts left to charity are normally exempt from Inheritance Tax – so leaving a gift to WKPS, for example, could help to reduce the tax liability on your estate.

Inheritance Tax is a complex area and subject to change so, for up-to-date information, take a look at the UK Government website: https://www.gov.uk/inheritance-tax.

Different types of legacy gift

There are 3 main types of gift you can choose to leave:

A share of your estate

You can choose a percentage of what’s left over after your loved ones have been taken care of, or any other percentage you like. This is called a Residuary Gift. Unlike a cash gift, leaving a share of your estate means your gift won’t devalue over time.

A fixed sum

You can set a specific amount for your gift. This is known as a Pecuniary Gift. You can choose any amount but it’s worth reviewing from time to time as, unlike leaving a share of your estate, the monetary value reduces over time due to inflation.

A specific item

Maybe you’ll choose to leave a particular item to WKPS such as an antique, some jewellery, or even your property. A gift like this should be named in your Will (and you should probably let family members know your intention in relation to these items).

How to include Weald of Kent Protection Society in your Will
