🌿 Combine learning the skills of a traditional craft and be immersed in the ecological magic and majesty of an ancient woodland🌿
🌿 Come and enjoy the tranquil vibe of an ancient woodland and learn the craft of spoon carving with master craftswoman, Jill Swan.
A revered creative within the woodland world, Jill has taught and demonstrated the techniques of spoon carving across the UK and Europe for 20 years 🌿
🌿 A “raw product to final form” training course, Jill will talk you through the fundamentals of choosing the right tree for the right spoon; you’ll walk the woods and learn about each species unique qualities and select the tree that lends itself most elegantly to be carved. Afterwards it’ll be back to the carving blocks and chisels, where Jill will explain about the tools used, knife grips, axe techniques, and much more. Then, under Jills’ careful tutorship, you will begin your journey turning a billet of wood into one of life’s most functional and beautiful items – a spoon! 🌿
🌿 Set amongst the hornbeam coppice of an ancient woodland, there’ll also be opportunities to learn about the holistic management, ecological and historical importance of ancient woodland, with Environmental Forester, Frankie Woodgate of Weald Woodscapes.🌿
🔥There’ll be a camp fire, with a kettle always ready for hot drinks throughout the day. We will also provide a simple lunch of soup, bread and cheese to further warm your spirits and keep those carving arm muscle fibres nourished 🔥
🌿 Together, we two women of the woods promise you a day of woodland creativity, insight, and mirth 🌿
